Dairy processors can gain 30-45 days of production each year
In dairy processing plants time is money, and every interruption in production reduces the bottom line. For years, it was necessary for dairy plants to stop all production during cleaning in order to meet the PMO regulations. Originally, swing bend panels were used to route product and cleaning solution through piping systems. The manual connections made this system labor intensive, expensive to operate, difficult to expand, and left the system open to the atmosphere, increasing the risk of product contamination. But, at the time, this was the only option. Then, in 1995, Norit Südmo revolutionized dairy processing with the introduction of mix proof technology. These valves provided the highest product safety, decreased manpower needs, minimal product loss, a compact and modular expandable design, and fast changeovers. Despite all of these advances, the original PMO mix proof valves required that seat cleaning with seat lifting be done without the possibility of product in the opposite pipeline to meet PMO regulations. This meant that dairy plants had to shut down the line(s) each day, resulting in several hours of lost production time.
365it maximizes production The day has come for dairy plants to reap all the benefits of mix proof technology and gain operating hours every day of the year. The PMO regulations that prevented dairy processors from cleaning the valve seats when product was potentially on the other side of the valve have now changed. As the industry leader in mix proof technology, Norit Südmo developed the revolutionary new 365it PMO Mix Proof Valve that allows dairy processors to maximize their production time and operational flexibility. Processors no longer have to wait until the end of the day to clean valve clusters, leakage areas and lines. This can be done during the day as tanks and process pipelines are emptied and the lines to the fillers can be cleaned and re-used immediately, adding two or more hours of processing time each day. Norit Südmo’s 365it PMO Mix Proof Valve, which carries the FDA Memorandum M-b-354, can be applied to any area of a dairy plant where product is being transferred and independent CIP is required, such as raw receiving, raw tank storage, HTST supply and discharge lines, pasteurized tank storage, filler supply lines, batching systems or any tank or vat filling/emptying manifold.
The 365it advantages are clear To meet the FDA’s criteria to allow seat cleaning with product in the valve, traditional PMO mix proof valves were re-engineered to ensure that there is no direct impingement or pressure buildup of CIP solution on the opposite seat. Norit Südmo’s design is distinctive in that it uses a deflector to route the CIP solution away from the opposite seat. This simple design uses a direct barrier to protect the opposite seat and ensures that the leakage area is totally open and fully cleaned by lifting either seat. Compare this to the competitor’s solution, which includes a complicated profile with radial seals and a metal to metal seat. Their close fitting, stepped design can give rise to fluid shear and flow resistance when compared to Norit Südmo’s large bore, smooth profile.
Time is money Now that dairy plant processors can clean the valve seats while product is on the other side of the valve, production can be maximized. This can add two to three hours to the production day, which can result in plants gaining 30 to 45 additional days of production each year.
